PTMEG is a polymeric diol like ethylene glycol and its polymers but with a four carbon repeating unit instead of a two carbon repeating unit.
A variety of polymeric molecular weights are possible. PTMEG is used to make high specification polyurethanes with enhanced properties such as hydrolysis and microbe resistance, good low temperature performance and excellent resistance to abrasion and physical wear.
Examples of applications
Polymers formed using PTMEG include castable polyurethanes such as wheels and belts, thermo-plastic polyurethanes such as ski boots, hoses and sealants and a wide range of polyurethane coat-ings including fabric coatings and artificial leather.
