Acetic Acid

Acetic acid is used in several chemical processes. Additionally, the molecule is found in paints, cleaning agents and disinfectants or as part of preservative and food additives.

Acetic acid is a colourless chemical product sold in large quantities. Its source is primarily petrochemical, with a small proportion of the production of acetic acid coming from renewable raw materials such as timber. As by-product it arises e.g. during production of polyvinyl alcohol. As one of Europe’s leading distributors for acetic acid we supply customers with different concentrations and qualities for various applications.

Examples of applications

Potential applications of acetic acid depend heavily on the quality of the acid. Chemically pure product, also called glacial acetic acid, is mainly used as an intermediate for other chemicals, such as vinyl acetate monomer, ethyl acetate or purified terephthalic acid, but it can also be used to produce cigarette filters. Blended with water acetic acid is a part of many cleaning and disinfection products or colours. In a lower concentration it is suitable for water treatment or as vinegar for pickling. Besides others, by-product acetic acid is used in the production of esters and leather products.
